top five places for brunch || hobart

Hobart is all about local small businesses and what better businesses to support than those who make the best food around. Here's my list of the top five places to have brunch at.

1. Criterion Street Cafe, Criterion Street Hobart.

Criterion Street is a lovely little cafe off the busy and bustling Hobart main strip. It offers a lovely menu and I swear the corn fritters with haloumi and avocado are an absolute god send (I'm hungry just thinking about them.) Criterion Street also has a lovely set of staff and a cozy little shop, although it's usually packed there's always somewhere to sit and enjoy the great coffee and food on offer.

2. Patanella, North Hobart.

I used to live right around the corner from Patanella, and it is my absolute favourite place to go for a quiet brunch with my partner (or myself). Rose is an absolute treasure and she will always start chatting with you whether you're a regular or you have never been in. Also Mama Rosa Pasta Classes are once a month and they are so worth it and Rose has recently updated the menu so go in and check it out.

3. Honey Badger Cafe, Salamanca.
Sine opening the Honey Badger has been such a popular spot to grab desserts. Their panookie's are some of the loveliest things, if a little on the small side, but the point still stands that the food is wonderful. I recommend the Queen B and their Nama Hot Chocolate - their hot chocolate also has the added benefit of being deconstructed and super cute when you add in the chocolate cubes (if you're into that sort of thing.)

4. Machine Laundry Cafe, Salamanca.
Just a few doors down from the Honey Badger is Machine Laundry Cafe. A cute and quirky cafe with an amazing specials board and lovely atmosphere is an apt description for the cafe. Their specials board is brimming with amazing food that just begs to be eaten, but if nothing grabs your fancy on the board then check out their menu. I recommend their parmesan, caramelised onion and spinach pancakes and my boyfriend sings praise for their Eggs Benedict. Weekdays are your best bet for getting a spot, weekends are much more busy with the Salamanca Markets on.

5. Hairy Giraffe Cafe, Margate. 
A little out of the cities inner limits is the Hairy Giraffe Cafe. With cheap prices, lovely views and the best sweet potato fries in Hobart it is a must go for anyone. If you order 'Your Breakfast' you get 6 items for $22 which, for any starving uni students like me, that sounds like the absolute best way you can do Sunday brunch.
