Theatre Royal - Swan Lake
On Wednesday night I saw Swan Lake and as always, the Moscow Ballet 'La Classique' didn't fail to impress. In the midst of stunning costumes, detailed sets and the creative genius of Tchaikovsky's score; the story of a pure swan, Odette, is brought to life. The contrast between Odette and her rival Odile, is depicted on stage by the variation of the outfits in white and black as well as the music surrounding their time on stage. The costumes were detailed and beautiful, though the first half lacked the lavishness and decadence that appeared in the second half with the second half including outfits that represented different countries.
The performance was clearly thought out to the very last detail, each dancer on stage had a part whether they were dancing or not. People who were not dancing had feet crossed and men had their hands on one knee; it made the performance cohesive and whole. Each person had a part and each person was a part of the scene itself. It also visually balanced the stage with the cast all sitting in the same way. They were there but did not draw your eye from the main act happening on stage. This year's audience is in talented hands with the Moscow's Ballet 'La Classique' in their performance of Swan Lake. The performance doesn't cease to amaze from the very beginning and I highly urge you to go and see their rendition of 'The Nutcracker' next year when it hits the Theatre Royal stage. You won't want to miss it.

lift and the magic begins. I have been attending Theatre Royal shows ever
since I was a little girl. There is something special about the intimate size
of our Theatre Royal in Hobart and what it adds to the arts culture that has always drawn me in. The Theatre Royal, though it has been refurbished and reconstructed over the years, still has its old world charms that you must see.

If any of
you have been to the Theatre Royal, you will be aware how small the stage can
be when there is a full set on there and the cast is performing. At some performances I have seen the cast bump into the set because of this but it did not happen during Swan Lake. They were professional and even when the full cast were
on stage they handled it extremely well. The set design itself was visually stunning, and the 'swans lake' curtain was the most magnificent with its detail.
